How is artificial turf produced?
Raw Material Preparation
step4 ➤➤➤
The raw material for turf fibers mainly consists of polyethylene (PE) plastic pellets. Before production, additives such as color masterbatches, UV stabilizers, and antioxidants are mixed in to ensure the fibers achieve the desired color and weather resistance. These mixtures are then fed into an extruder for heating and melting. At the same time, the backing fabric that carries the turf fibers (typically PP or polyester non-woven fabric) and the backing adhesive (such as SBR latex or SPU) to be used later are also prepared.
Turf Fiber Production
step2 ➤➤➤
The molten plastic mixture is extruded through a "spinneret" with precise micro-holes to form continuous filaments. The newly extruded fibers are immediately cooled and set, then undergo multiple stretching (drawing) processes to enhance their strength, toughness, and tensile properties. Depending on the product design, the fibers can be processed into a flat shape or made into a "fibrillated" yarn (one-step process) that mimics natural grass through special dies. Finally, the formed fibers are neatly wound onto large spools, ready for the next tufting stage.
Tufting Process
step3 ➤➤➤
This is the key process that forms the turf surface. The tufting machine operates like a giant sewing machine. Needles carrying the turf yarn rapidly and repeatedly pierce the pre-laid backing fabric according to a preset program, forming U-shaped or W-shaped tufts. By precisely controlling the needle spacing, row spacing, and yarn feed, the turf's pile density, height, and pattern (e.g., straight, curled) are determined. This process directly defines the basic appearance, feel, and subsequent performance of the turf.
Final Inspection and Rolling
step4 ➤➤➤
On the back of the tufted turf, a layer of liquid backing adhesive (commonly SBR latex or polyurethane PU) is evenly applied. The adhesive penetrates to the roots of the grass clusters, firmly bonding them to the backing fabric to prevent the fibers from being pulled out during use. The turf then passes through a temperature-controlled drying tunnel, where the adhesive is fully dried, vulcanized, and cured to form a stable base layer. This step is a core part of ensuring the structural stability and service life of the turf.
Finishing Processes
step5 ➤➤➤
The cured turf undergoes refinement to enhance its quality. First, "shearing" is performed using large blades to trim the tips of the fibers to a uniform height. Next, "fibrillation" is carried out on flat fibers, where specialized brush rollers or blades split them longitudinally to create a more realistic, lush, mesh-like blade structure. For sports turf, perforation may also be added to improve drainage. These treatments significantly improve the final appearance and texture of the turf.
Final Inspection and Rolling
step6 ➤➤➤
The finished product undergoes strict full or random inspection. Test items include fiber color, weight per unit area, density, pile height, tuft bind strength, backing peel strength, wear resistance, and dimensional stability. Only products that fully meet quality standards are approved. Finally, the turf is rolled by an automatic winding machine into standard-sized rolls (e.g., 4 meters wide, 25-50 meters long), labeled, and packaged for storage or shipment to customers.

FAQ
How compatible is fitness turf with mainstream fitness equipment?
Our fitness turf features LSR (Low Slide Resistance) fiber technology to minimize friction burns and ensure equipment stability. With uniform support, excellent shock absorption, and superior fiber resilience, it is fully compatible with all types of fitness equipment.
What is the gym floor turf warranty period?
6 years. Our SPU backing technology ensures a service life of over 10 years. The turf has passed 5,000-hour UV resistance testing to guarantee long-term durability.
Installation and after-sales support for exercise turf?
We provide a 7-step detailed installation guide. Installation can be completed using basic tools such as a utility knife, vacuum cleaner, and scraper.
How to store the workout turf?
Store flat in a dry environment and avoid heavy pressure to maintain product integrity.
How does gym turf absorb shock?
Turf with a PU (polyurethane) backing absorbs impact through its tough yet flexible base, which helps protect your joints and reduce the risk of injury during high-intensity training.
How to choose the right turf for different gym activities?
For sled pushes and agility drills, choose a short, dense turf to reduce friction and provide stable footing, while a 15-20mm turf is ideal for general training; please note, weightlifting areas must use thick rubber mats, not turf, to absorb impact.
What is the basic process for installing gym turf?
Before installation, ensure the subfloor is clean and level, then unroll the turf and let it rest for 24 hours, cut and seam it according to a uniform pile direction, and finally secure it with specialized adhesive or double-sided tape.
How to clean and maintain gym turf?
For daily maintenance, simply vacuum up dust and debris, treat stains by wiping with a neutral detergent, and avoid using corrosive chemicals or sharp objects that could damage the turf.
